An email list is a powerful tool, but only if you can get the emails on the list! Check out my advice and steps to creating a can’t-resist opt-in for your target audience.
Your email list service provider is all set up and ready to go, but how are you going to get folks on your email list?! By choosing a powerful opt-in to offer.
The term opt-in (or freebie, lead magnet) is a tangible resource you create for your prospective clients in exchange for their email addresses!
But sometimes, coming up with your opt-in can be difficult. How do you know WHAT to create in order to land those addresses?!
Think about these questions:
With your client in mind, think about what things might feel like a fun bonus for them, or be extremely useful in their industry.
Do you own an online store or boutique? Maybe it is a coupon code for a certain percentage off of their first purchase.
Are you a photographer? Maybe it is a certain amount off of their first booking, or to be the first to know next time you have mini sessions scheduled, or maybe if you are a wedding photographer it is a list of your top 10 venues in the area.
What about a coach of some sort? Think about a free list of tips or processes that are most helpful for your clients.
Are you an online educator? Think about what you are already blogging about that could be compiled into a .pdf download that would be helpful to your audience. A content planning guide? Financial tips for business owners?
A ministry leader? What about the promise of a daily devotional? Or if your audience is other ministry leaders then maybe a quick guide of songs that go along with the message? Or creative ways to run giving campaigns for mission projects?
Once you have your plan in place, get busy creating your freebie! It can truly be something as simple as a Google doc with a shareable public link that goes out with your initial welcome email. Or, you can create a Word document and then convert it to a PDF and have it available for download. Don’t be afraid to utilize Google Drive and Dropbox for sharing these links.
Sometimes your email service provider will have an option to upload your document directly there for the automatic download as well.
There is also a workaround with WordPress. If you have WordPress, you can upload your document into the media library and it creates a link that you can provide in the welcome email and voila!
I sure hope that this has been helpful to get your mind going as you decide what you want to use for your freebie/opt in!
